When I was first starting out in my career in publishing, I got laid off from my first “real job” out of college. It was at a tiny publisher and I should have seen it coming, honestly. I was out of work for 4 months.
I know too many parents who are afraid to broach the subject of race with their kids. They don't know the right age or the right time to begin the conversation, or they are scared of saying the wrong thing.
Life is a collection of moments, or so someone, somewhere once said. Here are three moments in my life that have shaped how I think about my races and have affected how I now carry myself and stand up for myself now.
